Well, Russ has been home for about 8 weeks. We made it through our trip to Disney, Thanksgiving, and the first underway since deployment. Now, it's back to real life and getting ready for Christmas.
This year, Christmas takes on a whole new life. The boys are 2 and a half and are starting to understand Santa and the "magic" of Christmas. We have an Elf on the Shelf (named "Red' by those clever boys) who watches them to make sure they are being good. Red even decorated our Christmas tree last night before he flew to the North Pole to report back to Santa. They have things on their Christmas list and were more than willing to tell Santa all about it. They don't quite get the excitement of Christmas morning, but Russ and I are very excited.
We have been talking about the Christmas story and they are fascinated with the fact that baby Jesus was put in the hay. Babies don't go in hay, they go in beds...or so I was told. :-) We are not terribly religious people, but there is something special that happens when a 2 year old picks up a bible ("the Jesus story") and starts to sing "Jesus Loves Me." Both boys are very interested in why there is Christmas.
Once we get through the holidays, life will really settle down and get back to normal. I am so thankful that my family is together for the holidays and my thoughts are with those who are separated. Luckily, everyone in our Navy family is together for the holidays. We appreciate the sacrifice of the deployed soldiers, sailors and Marines.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
